Surgery of the Eyelids (Cosmetic & Reconstructive)
As with all things in life, with time, comes change. This affects every part of our existence right down to that small portion of our anatomy known as the eyelid. Our body takes a beating through the years and the muscles and skin begin to loosen. When this happens in the eyelid area, it presents a visual problem.
Listed below are some of the more common surgical eyelid procedures that are performed at the Center for Advanced Eye Surgery:
- Blepharoplasty
- Upper: the removal of excess skin tissue on the upper eyelid
- Lower Lid: the removal of fatty tissue from under the eye
- Brow Lift - the tightening of the skin tissue in the forehead area to allow the brow to raise, which in turn, allows the upper eyelid to function as normal
- Ectropion Repair - the tightening of the muscle within the eyelid to prevent the lid from rolling outward
- Entropion Repair - the tightening of the muscle within the eyelid to prevent the lid from rolling inward
- Ptosis Repair - the tightening of the muscle in the upper eyelid to allow the lid to function without blocking vision
- Levator Resection / Mueller's Muscle Resection -
Two of the possible muscles that have allowed ptosis to occur, and through special testing, the surgeon determines which to tighten to correct the condition.
An oculoplastic surgeon specializes in the reconstruction of the eyelids. Outpatient procedures can be done to correct these conditions and improves ones chances of seeing with a full range of their sight. An ophthalmologist who specializes in oculoplastics can perform simple tests during an office evaluation to determine methods of correction and obtain precise measurements.
So if you have a problem, there is no need to suffer. The surgeons at the Center for Advanced Eye Surgery are board-certified ophthalmologists who are assisted by highly trained and skilled staff specializing in eye care.
